Sweat Equity: Tiling Part 1

Wow! Tiling has been a lot longer of a process that I thought it would be. We have been (aka Jake has been) tiling for a week, mostly after work, and this weekend.  Those dang youtube videos make it look so simple, but it's definitely time consuming!  You really have to love this youtube generation. You can really learn to do anything. My mother in law came over and I'm all.... "Jake are you doing a 3/16" grout on this tile, because if so we need to get a sanded grout instead of non sanded....' and she's like...."what the heck?!" Ha.
Our budget for tiling is $1200. The original bid was $2250 for the tile flooring. I think we can do all the tile floors for $800. Next time we build, I def think we will just have someone do the flooring. It would be worth every penny.  But, it's one more thing we've learned to do!

Here's the different tiles we chose to do:

The MUDROOM: Blue and Grey Mosaic Tile from Floor and Decor. $1.49 sq ft

This was a game changer. I wanted to take risks in the mudroom because....we you can and you should and the price was spot on. I had to do it! I had all my colors picked out....and then I saw this and then everything had to change. It's much more subtle in the mudroom which makes me so happy.

The LAUNDRY ROOM: White Washed Wood Tile from Floor and Decor for $1.79 sq ft

I LOVE THIS! (And now that I am seeing this on a wall, my brain is turning). These are 12" planks and I love the white wash look of these! They are going to be perfect for our little laundry room with the vintage door, and floral wallpaper. I need to get an actual shot of them on the floor, but I keep forgetting! They look awesome. We are considering doing this in our master bathroom too!! My one concern is that they are "Trendy" and will be sooooo out in 10 years.

The HALF Bath: Herringbone White Porelain Tile from Floor and Decor for $2.99 sq ft

I figured for this little room we could do something fun. We are planning to do a custom word search wall paper in here, and this floor is simple, pretty and one of my favorite patterns. I am not sure this was one of Jake's fav rooms to tile.

This is as far as we've gotten at this point! Painters are coming in this week so we will probably wait until they are done to do the kids bathroom and the master bathroom. Plus we need to accomplish SOMETHING in the basement apartment! The goal is to prime and paint the basement by the end of the week. We also need to grout these three rooms.

Well it's my last week of school. The cleaning in my three classrooms has seemed endless and extra torturous this year as I just wanna stay focused on the house. They are also making me a custom pantry and painting all my ugly blue cabinets but it means a lot of moving things around and finding crafty ways to store everything.  I am really glad that I will have the summer to get this house wrapped up without the business of working full time. It will be extra nice to get moved in and focused backed to school by the end of the summer. It will also be super nice to have a student teacher in the fall!!!!
